NURS FPX 6100 Assessment 2 Tripartite Model Reflection
NURS FPX 6100 Assessment 2 Tripartite Model Reflection Student Name Capella University NURS-FPX6100 The Role of Nurse Educators Professor Name Submission Date Tripartite Model Reflection Teaching, service, and scholarship form a model that provides a structure for excellence in educational and clinical domains of nursing. This represents the need for a balance for nurse educators among these three roles to remain informed of best practices and to contribute to the advancement of their institution and the discipline of nursing. The balance achieved among teaching, service, and scholarship roles will continue the professional development of educators and will increase their capacity to shape their field of practice. The purpose of this reflection paper is to explore how I will address the expectations of teaching, service, and scholarship. Aspired Nurse Educator Role: Clinical Nurse Educator Following my MSN, I aspire to become a Clinical Nurse Educator in a hospital setting with a focus on critical care. In this role, I would be responsible for the design and implementation of evidence-based educational initiatives for nurses and new hire orientations, while also aiding the development of workplace competency programs. According to Zhou et al. (2024), Clinical Nurse Educators help merge theory with clinical application, while assuring the fulfillment of nursing competency outcomes. They help enhance the delivery of patient care through the facilitation of the ongoing professional development of healthcare practitioners, who strive for continuous improvement in their practice (Gcawu & Rooyen, 2022). In this role, I would assess the competencies and educational needs of nurses and create simulations for the preparation and mentoring of nurses entering the critical care domain of nursing. Teaching, Service, and Scholarship Expectations for Clinical Nurse Educator Teaching, service, and scholarship form the foundational pillars for the role of a Clinical Nurse Educator. In the area of teaching, this role includes the provision of education that develops nurse competencies, as well as the application of the mentoring process, and the employment of diverse teaching strategies in the enhancement of staff education. This is accomplished by performing effective simulations, developing learning plans, and employing teaching strategies that address the needs of different learning styles (Dighliya, 2024). In relation to service, engagement in the hospital work enterprise is required, which includes participation in the hospital (or health care institution) committees and in service quality improvement activities to ensure the advancement of effective professional practice. It is expected that one will also engage in the development of frameworks and public services that will ensure provisions beneficial to the profession (Nowak et al., 2024). Finally, the scholarship element requires engagement in the research and evidence-based practice at the unit level. Plan for Meeting the Tripartite Model Expectations Being a Clinical Nurse Educator calls for the need to balance Educator roles in Teaching, Service, and Scholarship. In Teaching, I will focus on designing colleague training sessions that are stimulating and constructive for the development of relevant skills (Gcawu & Rooyen, 2022). As such, I will provide training sessions for my colleagues, engage in mentoring, and conduct competency-based assessments. In relation to Service, I will participate in several quality improvement projects that include working in collaborative leadership groups and creating/updating policies. I will also participate in community activities that involve health education. Lastly, in the area of Scholarship, I will conduct research and present my work at nursing conferences. I will also publish my research and write articles for peer-reviewed journals. Professional Implications of Unaddressed Tripartite Elements The imbalance of components in the tripartite model impacts the growth of an educator in nursing. For example, neglecting the teaching component will consequently hinder the efficiency of the learning component (Permatasari, 2025). Hence, balance is essential in the tripartite model to ensure professional growth and balance. A failure to participate in service will result in a loss of opportunities to be involved in the decision-making process and the chance to work together with other professionals. A lack of engagement in scholarship will also adversely impact evidence-based practice. Qualifications as a Change Agent in the Clinical Nurse Educator Role Having completed the MSN program and with a wealth of experience in critical care nursing and leadership, I will have the necessary tools to be a change agent in the clinical nurse educator role. Additionally, I will obtain the nursing professional development credential, complete project management workshops, and obtain advanced instruction in simulation to broaden my scope as a change agent. These credentials will provide the needed skills to effect and manage change. Nurse educators need to have both clinical and leadership skills as change agents to improve nursing and subsequently health outcomes (Ghorbani et al., 2023). With these skills, I will have the ability to navigate the complexities of healthcare and be a change agent in my organization (Inayat et al., 2023). I also plan to pursue a Doctor of Nursing Practice in the future to advance my knowledge in evidence-based practice and leadership. Conclusion Clinical Nurse Educators utilize their teaching, service, and research roles to enhance the nursing practice. To be successful as a Clinical Nurse Educator, you need to strike a balance in all three areas and engage in continuous growth. The application of research in teaching, as well as participation in the different roles of the organization, will be beneficial to the improvement of performance in the organization.
